Advice on medication for ‘hayfever’

Hayfever is a common allergic condition, which is estimated to affect approximately one in five people. The symptoms can vary from one person to another, and typically include sneezing, coughing, nasal congestion and watery eyes. Although there is no cure for hayfever, the symptoms of hayfever can be prevented or managed in a variety of ways. Medications, such as nasal sprays and antihistamine tablets, may also be useful for the treatment of hayfever symptoms.

In keeping with the hayfever policy of NHS Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care System (published July 2023, https://nwknowledgenow.nhs.uk/), Beccles Medical Centre does not prescribe medication for the management of mild to moderate hayfever symptoms. An extensive range of hayfever medications is available, without prescription, from Pharmacies and supermarkets.

Further advice on the management and treatment of hayfever is available from local Pharmacies. The contact details for your local Pharmacy may be accessed here:
