MAKING
AN APPOINTMENT
To book an appointment with one of our health care professionals
telephone our main switchboard number on [01502] 712662 and
select option 1 or ask at reception
.
We offer prebookable appointments with GPs and Nursing staff and we are also able to see you on the day if your need is urgent.
Pre-Bookable appointments:
This means that you will be able to pre-book an appointment up
to 2 weeks in advance to see an appropriate clinician i.e. a Health
Care Assistant, Practice Nurse, Nurse Practitioner or GP.
We hope that by encouraging patients to ‘Help
themselves’, appointments with the practice will
be safeguarded as much as possible so that we can offer you
an appointment with
an appropriate clinician at a time to suit.
What about if I need to be seen today?
In an ideal world all patients should be able to plan and make
their appointment in advance. However, from time to time you
may find your medical condition cannot wait for a bookable appointment
or your condition becomes quickly urgent in which case we can
refer you to our Emergency Same Day Team who will be able to
advise and/or see you.
It is the policy of the practice that patients
will be directed to an appropriate health care professional
which means that when
you want to make an appointment a Receptionist will ask you for
a brief description of the reason – this is to ensure that
she directs you to the most appropriate appointment/clinician.
Please respond in a positive way to questions asked by our reception
staff - remember they are trained medical receptionists working
under the doctors' orders and will all have signed a confidentiality
declaration the same as the doctors and nurses.
Patients requesting advice / or an appointment for the same day
will be referred to the Emergency Same Day Team which is managed
by two Nurse Practitioners and an Emergency Doctor. Therefore
if you need to be seen on the day you cannot refuse to see a Nurse
Practitioner or demand to see a GP but you will be advised or
seen by an appropriate clinician according to your need.
Home visits:
Our doctors typically see 4 patients in surgery in the time
it takes to do 1 home visit. For this reason we ask our patients
to come to the practice if at all possible. However, we can
visit you at home if your condition means you cannot get to
the practice. Please ring before 10:30am to arrange a visit.
The decision to visit at home will be at the doctors’ discretion.
Remember home visits should be medically justifiable and not requested
for social convenience.
Checking in:
Please check in at reception when you arrive for your appointment
as this enables us to make sure you are waiting in the correct
building. We will also be able to advise if there is a delay in
the appointment wait. Our receptionists are happy to update you
on any delay situation if you feel that you have been waiting
too long.
